Clip, pendant or both
Context and trade-offs
Where you wear a recorder decides how good the audio is. Our research found the collar is the best place: about 15 to 20 cm from your mouth. A pendant on top of clothing comes close, at 20 to 30 cm, but under a jumper the fabric rustles against the microphone. A chest-worn microphone also hears people behind you about 8 dB more quietly. Pockets and bags do not work, whatever the microphone.
The v0.1 case already has a magnet back for a garment plate and a lanyard loop. This vote tells us which carrier to get right first.
This is advisory: we will run a wear-position test on our own recordings before we decide, and publish the results with the outcome.
The result informs our decision, alongside prototype tests and cost. We publish what we chose and why.
